Protecting your hands from potentially harmful external agents, such as bacteria or viruses, is very important when it comes to protecting your health and maintaining your hygiene. When working in healthcare settings with potentially contagious patients or when dealing with them requires extreme cleanliness, gloves are an indispensable tool, just as they are when handling food or cleaning with chemicals that can be harmful to the skin. They also protect your hands in professions exposed to harmful microorganisms, and in the home when they come into contact with harsh hygiene products.
-Latex Gloves: Latex gloves come in two formats: powdered or powder-free. Both are valid options and feature great elasticity, molding perfectly to the hands and fingers. They have a smooth, even surface and are available in a variety of sizes and packs, for occasional or everyday use.
-Nitrile Gloves: For those who suffer from allergic reactions to latex, or for those whose skin is more sensitive and does not respond well to the use of this material, there are alternatives in the form of gloves made of nitrile. There are also powder-free or non-powdered options, with textured fingers, or with the inside treated with a polymer coating that provides a very soft touch to prevent irritation.
-Latex-free Gloves: Other latex-free options are vinyl gloves, with characteristics very similar to those of latex gloves.
It is advisable that gloves comply with certain regulations (specifically, the Medical Device Directive MDD 93/42/EEC) to demonstrate that they have been successfully tested and proven according to several agreed standards:
EN 455-1: Single-use medical gloves - Requirements and tests for the absence of holes.
EN 455-2: Single-use medical gloves - Requirements and tests for determining physical properties.
EN 455-3: Single-use medical gloves - Requirements and tests for biological evaluation.
EN 455-4: Single-use medical gloves - Requirements and tests for determining service life.
